Movies Ten Times

I realize, I have many TV & movie addicts around me as my good frenz. Suppose like attracts like in this scenario - a homovisual attraction.

I have been thinking what movies I have maybe watched more than 10 times, and I am going to watch another 100 times before I die. Here are a few.

1. Unbearable Lightness of Being

I knew about this through my high school teacher. He always quoted this movie title to me as an inspiration sort when we dwelled on the topics like "what's life?" "opening door to the reality"  "knowing onself" "becoming aware".....etc. pretty darn heavy stuff for a 16yo gal.

Few years later, I got the video (no VCD or DVD then, LD was then a luxury item) in Melbourne. I found it hard to understand as I felt so heavy after watching the movie. I was drawn into a bit of depression after it, esp when I understood the unbearable lightness meaning. That's when I asked my good frenz to go to throw a wish bottle into the ocean at my bday.

Then I experienced life, issues for few years.

Bought the DVD in HK. Rewatched couples of times. Each time, I could understand, even identify with the characters abit more. I am for sure more like Sabina character - strong, independant, but men will not choose me over sweet, simple Tereza.

In btw, not that Tereza is indeed that simple, but somehow stupidity of men would be tricked to think she is - she needs "protection". If I were a man, I would choose the excitng Sabina. kekekkeekke

Now this movie has become my friend. I got the book but it was abit dark & heavy when I read it couples of years ago so didnt finish it. I think I will pick it up again sometime soon.

2. Sound of Music

My childhood favourite. Was just thinking what movie to watch this weekend. I thought, why not I go & fetch a copy. I couldnt believe I never got a dvd of it.

This movie is a fairy tale that I wish to happen in my life. A handsome, responsible, intelligent man falls in luv with the awkward, strange nun. HOHO!

Not the plot I really like now, but the songs - I find to be still the best & easy to sing. So I wont mind to watch another 100 times just to bring back some good memory of my teen-era.

Songs I esp like:
"I am 16 going on 17, I know that I am naive. Fellows I meet may tell me I am sweet and willingly I believe"
"Nothing comes from Nothing. Nothing ever could. So somewhere in my youth or childhood, I must have done something good"

3. Love Actually

This is a movie I have to watch at least twice a year, whether I am in a r/p or not. This helps me to believe there's hope for Luv, despite the bad situation. I believe everyone becomes dead when one loses hope - not just about romantic luv but also friendship kind of luv. Esp, Colin Firth & Bill Nighy parts.

Nothing much to say about this movie, but just luv it, as it's lovely.

4. Little Mermaid

I never fancied cartoon or any kiddo stuff like dolls since young. But little mermaid made me like to watch cartoon abit more. Maybe it's the songs. Esp when Ariel was singing how she was trapped in the sea, not being able to be a human, walking on the sand, being burnt by the fire.......Also adore Sebatian character - the song "Under the sea" luv luv luv

5. Shiri (Korean Movie)

It's about the kind of unforbidden love between an assassin and a cop. What I like this movie is that the plot is simple & direct, it's the song, the tone, the simple romance that draw me to go back again and again. "When I dreammmmmm, I dream of you......maybe someday you will come true....."

And both main characters are my fav too. The assasin is played by Yunjin Kim who is the korean hot gal from Lost too. The cop - played Han Suk-kyu - has been in many movies.

So, any movies you have watched more than 5 times? Guess most pple r not as nut as me. :)

  1. My Fair Lady. It made me want to speak English perfectly. Now, if I could, I'd like to watch Lord of the Rings Trilogy again and again till I can remember everything about it!

  4. For me...
When Harry Met Salley (over 15 times)
    High Fidelity (over 10 times)
You've Got Mail (over 10 times)
Love Actually (over 8 times) - I thought it was a bit messy and like a mixed tape when I first saw it, but it's very sweet and a nice pick-me-up movie, so I still rewatched it a lot.

  5. Ar, I like When Harry met Sally too, but I suppose I watched that on TV only, maybe few times. That reminds me, you got the dvd with me. Same here, Love Actually is totally a pick-me-up movie that I need to watch every year, at least 2times , not during Xmas though. :)

  6. I forgot to mention Something about Mary.... I've watched it over 20 - 30 times - the first 20 times or so within a few months in Toronto because it was showing on pay-TV (but I didnt need to pay), and I was not working then so I rewatched it again and again on TV whenever i was bored at home!
I still find the script and acting funny till now
